Haiku multimedia artist Tom Sewell stands next to his heavyweight sculpture titled “Tribute to the Japanese Workers of HC&S” last month at Puunene Mill. The piece is displayed in Sewell’s Enigma of the Mill studio located in the shuttered mill’s tractor repair shop. It is one of several tall, unique columns that Sewell has made by repurposing and reinventing what he has found among the discarded equipment and materials at the mill. Sewell says his impressive vertical pieces are to be taken down to comply with the wishes of his landlord and he suggests people stop by to see them while they are still standing. The studio is open from noon to 3 p.m. seven days a week. For more information, Sewell can be contacted at (808) 214-3324 or tom@tomsewell.com.
